Sailing the world with a pet aboard

Deciding whether or not to have a pet aboard a boat is a a big decision that will have a huge impact on how and where you cruise. It can seem overwhelming at times but we promise that with enough preparation and organisation most things are doable, especially if you have a cat or dog.

As we travel we're compiling guides on the places we visit and feedback based on our experiences having a dog aboard, sharing it so there's more information online to help you.

We're also posting the research we do on the best pet related products out there, because like everything on a boat, it needs to be durable and suitable for use in a marine environment.

The reality of having a dog aboard

When it comes to sailing with pets there's lots of different opinions out there from people who do and don't have pets living aboard.

We've has Rose living on our boat since the start of 2022 and in that time she's cruised the coast, crossed oceans, visiting 10+ countries and lived on the hardstand. From all those experiences, here's what it's been sailing around the world with a dog.

What to take sailing or boating with a dog

When you bring a dog aboard there's a whole lot of stuff that comes with them, some of which isn't a consideration when you're living a land based lifestyle. From toys and treats to sun protection and safety, this is what there is to know about pet equipment.

How to travel to new places with your pet

One of the biggest hurdles when travelling with a pet is entering new countries. The pet importation processes vary depending on where you are and some places are prohibitively difficult or expensive to enter with a cat or dog.

As we go travel, we're noting down everything we learn from our real world experiences and posting it. We do it so other travelers and cruisers like you can learn about the processes from people who are actually travelling and sailing the world with a dog.
