Sailing the open seas offers a unique sense of freedom and adventure. For many, it's even better when shared with pawsome companion in the form of a boat dog. In recent years many YouTube channels have emerged, showcasing the joys and challenges of the liveaboard lifestyle. Through their vlogs, some highlight the special bond between sailors and their four-legged friends.
If you love sailing and dogs, then here's 10 of the best sailing YouTube channels to keep you going that capture the essence of life on the water with man's best friend.
1. Sailing Nandji - Frothlyfe
One of the older sailing vlogs on YouTube, the Nandji crew have been living at sea since 2016. Bontia and Yoshi started cruising their Tayana monohull around Asia before eventually buying and refitting their second boat, sailing it across the Indian Ocean to new cruising grounds. Boat dog Marley has been along for the adventure since the start and their daughter has also grown up aboard.
2. Sailing Sunday
Canadian and Australian duo, Ryan and Brittni, have sailing to over 20 countries with their beloved dog Jackson by their side. They started in Europe, and have since explored the Caribbean and United States. Jackson was also one of the inspirations for the work they've done with various animal rescue organizations as they sail around the world.
3. Ryan & Sophie Sailing
One night an American guy met a French girl in Sweden, leading to an international adventure that started in Stockholm and has led them across the Atlantic Ocean. When they left in 2018 it was just the two of them, but in 2022 a Maltese/Poodle named Barnacle joined the crew, being raised aboard as a true boat dog.
4. Travel Sketch
After deciding to buy our boat, the next big decision was whether or not to get a dog. We weighed up the pros and cons, and late 2019 our Australian Shepherd Rose joined the family. She's lived aboard since early 2022 and loves being out on the water!
5. Harbours Unknown
Kristin and Fabio explore the world aboard their Seawind catamaran, sailing from the United States to the Caribbean and across the Pacific Ocean. Along for the ride is Yoda, their French bulldog, who has visited some of the trickiest places to get into if you have a boat dog aboard.
6. Making Our Way | Sailing Viā
Originally from Seattle in the United States, Mike and Taylor sold everything and with no experience moved aboard a 2004 monohull. They started sailing the Pacific North West before heading south to more tropical climates. Their entire journey starting from when they bought the boat and moved aboard is documented in their sailing vlog, which also features their two dogs, Penny and Lucy.
7. Vet Tails' Sailing Chuffed
Not your typical sailing vlog, this YouTube channel documents the adventures of Dr Sheddy and SV Chuffed, the world's only sailing veterinary clinic. At times there have been visiting boat dogs staying aboard and she frequently shares the work she does helping dogs and other animals in underprivileged communities. 8. Sailing Zephyr
The crew of Sailing Zephyr includes humans James and Nat, and doggo's Flint and Kira. While the people have been aboard since 2019, the dogs are a more recent addition, joining the crew in 2023. Together they're exploring the Caribbean before looking ahead to their next cruising destination.
9. Sailing Ragdoll
A smaller channel, Sailing Ragdoll have a crew of six. Chris, Daria and Jasper are the people while Hachi, Luna and Meems are the boat dogs. With two golden retrievers and one Bernese mountain dog it can be a bit of fun and loving chaos aboard.
10. Tula's Endless Summer
Billy and Sierra have be living on, fixing and exploring on boats for over 10 years, joined by their four-legged crew member Jetty. As a boat dog Jetty gets in on the action including trying his paw at e-foiling. They also have a blog where they share helpful information on sailing with a dog.
