I love home made pizza but once we arrived in Trinidad I discovered that pizza bases weren't easy to find and what was available was expensive! That led me to do a bit of online research and figure out how to make my own pizza bases that were soft on the inside with a crispy base.
At the end of the experimentation this is the recipe we have that creates delicious pizza bases every time!
Pizza Bases
This is enough to make two pizza bases that covers our whole Eno oven tray.
Ingredients
1 cup of lukewarm water
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 tablespoon of instant yeast
1 tablespoon of olive oil
2 cups of plain flour (plus extra to add)
1 teaspoon of salt
Method
Preheat the oven to the fan forced setting you'd cook a pizza in
Whisk the instant yeast, sugar, flour and salt together
Add the water and oil, and mix together until a ball begins to form
Transfer the ball to a floured surface and knead into a smooth dough by adding up to ½ a cup of extra flour
Roll the pizza dough out into the desired shape and thickness - if you don’t have a rolling pin you could use a wine or spirits bottle
Add the toppings straight onto the raw pizza base and when you’re ready, pop it in the oven and cook to the level you prefer
