Best Online Chandlery's in the USA for Boating & Marine Supplies

As a live aboard cruiser being able to buy boating supplies online can be a life saver when something you need isn’t available locally.

Here’s a look at some of the best online chandlers in the USA that deliver marine supplies straight to your door, including their online reviews and whether they deliver boating products internationally.

West Marine

West Marine is one of the most well known marine supply stores in the United States. With both physical stores and an extensive online selection, they offer everything from repair materials and maintenance supplies to electronics, safety gear (including life jackets), apparel and a full boat accessories catalogue. Their retail prices can be higher than others but they often have sales and have a two tier loyalty rewards program as well.

West Marine ships locally within the US and internationally. Unfortunately I discovered you can’t purchase from them using an Australian bank card regardless of the delivery address, due to a blanket rule West Marine made in response to Australian GST legislation.

Defender Marine

Defender Marine has been supplying boaters with quality marine gear since it was founded in 1938. They offer competitive pricing on a thousands of products, including safety equipment, bottom paint and navigation tools. Defender is known for its huge sales where customers can score significant discounts, including the annual Warehouse Sale, and have a reward program.

There are localized websites for Canada and the US, but customers in Canada need to pay the duties and taxes on their purchases as it’s coming in from America. Defender doesn’t ship directly anywhere else in the world so if your sailing somewhere like the Caribbean you’ll need to be like us and use a freight forwarder.

Sailrite

A personal favorite of mine, Sailrite is hands down one of the best suppliers for DIY sail repairs, canvas work and marine upholstery projects. They sell high quality fabric, heavy duty sewing machines, and hardware to help boaters customize their vessels. Their extensive library of instructional videos (over 1000 YouTube videos!) really do make it easy to take on sewing and canvas work, whether you’re repairing a sail, making a bimini top or crafting new cushions.

Sailrite ship around the globe using trusted couriers. I’ve had no issue receiving parcels from them in Australia, the US and even Trinidad.
