We started with the Sony AX43 UHD 4K Handycam Camcorder. It was a brilliant camera but one broken data wire left it out of commission for a while when the display screen failed. We now have the upgraded Sony AX53 Handcam, which has all the features of the AX43 and more.

• The inbuilt mechanical gimble is invaluable for filming while sailing or walking

• It has an impressive 20x optical zoom which we have used more than we'd expected

• Each battery lasts about 4 hours and you can plug it in and use it on AC power as well

• Unlike the AX43 the AX53 has a viewfinder

• It has night vision which works relatively well if you're filming slowly or there's still a little light

We like the AX53 so much we have one that we're using and a spare in the cupboard, just in case this one ever takes a dive overboard.
